Meet Our Volunteers

Botetourt County Emergency Services Services

“My name is Amanda Hicks, and I am an EMT Basic with Buchanan Vol. Rescue Squad. I have been a member there for a year and one half, I started doing rescue because I love helping people in my community. I am glad I joined rescue because I have met so many new friends. I love the family like atmosphere at the station. We all work together well to give the patient the best care possible.”

“My name is Amy Halterman. I am a Paramedic with Troutville Volunteer Rescue Squad, and this upcoming year will take on the responsibility of Training Officer and 1st Lieutenant. I have been a member of TVRS for 2 years, and have been involved with EMS for nine years. I became involved in EMS as a way to give back to the community. I stay in EMS because the rewards of helping my neighbors and knowing I have made a difference in someone’s life greatly outweigh the long hours and hard work. There is huge satisfaction in knowing that my efforts had an impact on the lives around me. The atmosphere at the station is that of a family, and it is awesome to know that I can count on them to have my back.”

“My name is Justin English. I am a volunteer Firefighter II and an EMT-Basic with the Blue Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad. Currently, I serve as president and 1st Lt. of the Rescue Division. EMS is a very important part of our community and I enjoy helping others and giving back. My fellow volunteers are like family and are not only there for the community, but for each other as well. This is my second year at station one and I look forward to many more years to come.”

“I’m Jenna Moran, a member of the Fincastle Volunteer Rescue Squad. I’m currently certified as an EMT-B. I have been a member of the FRS for five years now, and originally got involved at the age of 16 at the Troutville Rescue. I have also been the secretary at FRS for two years. I got involved because it looked interesting, challenging, and extremely rewarding. I enjoy all the hard work that it takes to remain involved, because at the end of the day, if I have helped just one person and given the best care to my ability, then I have done my job and that is enough to keep me motivated. The squad is a huge family and has become a big part of my own personal family. I know that if anyone in my family ever needed anything, the squad would be right there to help us out.

My name is Tom Griffin. I am an EMT-B with Blue Ridge Vol. Rescue Squad. I'm taking an EMT-Enhanced class to try to upgrade my skills. The teacher and my classmates are great and fun to be around as well as the members at Station One and the rest of the county of Botetourt. We all have that same common goal; to help our fellow neighbors and citizens in their time of need which there is no greater reward. I look forward to offering my services to our friends and neighbors for many years to come.
